Which is better, SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD V2 or Crucial X6?
SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD V2 2TB delivers higher advertised speeds, while Crucial X6 Portable SSD 1TB suits everyday storage. SanDisk is rated for sequential reads and writes up to 2,000 MB/s; Crucial X6 is rated for reads up to 800 MB/s.

What should you know about portable SSD speed?
Reaching advertised speeds up to 2,000 MB/s requires a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 port, as found on SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD V2 2TB and Samsung T9 Portable SSD 2TB. A slower connection limits transfer speed.
Manufacturer ratings cover sequential transfers under specified conditions. File size, cable quality and computer hardware affect real-world results. Crucial X6 Portable SSD 1TB is rated for reads up to 800 MB/s; Crucial X9 Pro Portable SSD 2TB reaches up to 1,050 MB/s for reads and writes. Match the rating to your workload.
Which portable SSD is best for travel and protection?
Samsung T7 Shield Portable SSD 2TB combines a grippy exterior with an IP65 rating. Crucial X9 Pro Portable SSD 2TB has an IP55 rating, as does Kingston XS2000 Portable SSD 1TB when its removable sleeve is attached.
These ratings describe resistance under specific conditions, not immunity to damage. Protect the connector and keep a separate copy of important files.
Which portable SSD should you choose for gaming?
WD_BLACK P40 Game Drive SSD 1TB offers customizable RGB lighting and advertised speeds up to 2,000 MB/s. Samsung T9 Portable SSD 2TB provides another high-speed option with more capacity.
Check platform requirements, supported storage formats and available ports before buying. External SSDs help manage game files and compatible installations, but do not guarantee faster loading in every game. Choose capacity according to the games and captures you keep.
How do you choose the right capacity for a portable SSD?
A 1TB drive suits everyday documents, photos and a modest collection of large files. Choose 2TB for more room for video projects, game libraries and backups.
Crucial X6 Portable SSD 1TB and Kingston XS2000 Portable SSD 1TB are 1TB options. SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD V2 2TB, Crucial X9 Pro Portable SSD 2TB, Samsung T7 Shield Portable SSD 2TB and Samsung T9 Portable SSD 2TB offer 2TB. Keep important files backed up separately.

Large video files and active projects benefit more from higher sequential speeds than documents and routine backups. Compare drive ratings with your workload and device ports.
Compare Black Friday 2026 value, not just the headline
Compare full product names, capacity, interface and protection features when reviewing Black Friday 2026 options. A higher speed rating offers less value without compatible hardware.
