Which is better, BOOX Palma 2 or Kindle Paperwhite?
The BOOX Palma 2 128GB is better for portability and app choice, while the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 16GB is better for a larger, waterproof reading screen. The Palma 2 measures 6.13 inches and runs Android 13; the Paperwhite offers a 7-inch, 300-ppi display and IPX8 water resistance.
Choose the Palma 2 if reading apps, a phone-like shape and carrying convenience matter most. Choose the Paperwhite if you want a dedicated Kindle with a roomy screen, simple controls and direct access to Amazon’s book ecosystem. Skip it if you expect the Palma 2 to feel like a standard Kindle: the open platform offers flexibility, but adds software choices and setup.
Which e-reader screen size is best for travel?
The BOOX Palma 2 128GB has the smallest screen in this guide at 6.13 inches, making it the most pocket-oriented choice. The Kobo Clara BW 16GB is another compact option at 6 inches, while the 7-inch models offer more room for larger type and wider page layouts.
A smaller screen is convenient for a coat pocket or small bag, but frequent page turns are part of the trade-off. For a dedicated travel reader, compare overall shape as well as screen size; the Palma 2’s phone-like form differs from a traditional e-reader. Readers who prioritize comfortable, spacious pages should consider the Kindle Paperwhite or Kobo Libra Colour instead.
Should you choose a color or monochrome e-reader?
The Amazon Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition 32GB and Kobo Libra Colour 32GB suit color books, comics and illustrated content, while the monochrome Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 16GB delivers 300-ppi black-and-white text. The color models offer 150-ppi color resolution, so color details look less crisp than their monochrome text.
Color is useful when illustrations are part of the reading experience, not essential for most novels. For fiction, nonfiction and library books without color pages, a monochrome screen is a clear, simple choice. Readers who want color plus app choice should compare the BOOX Go Color 7 64GB with the Kobo and Kindle color models.
Which e-reader is best for library books and multiple stores?
The BOOX Palma 2 128GB, BOOX Go Color 7 64GB and BOOX Page 32GB stand out for Android app access, while Kobo and Kindle devices center their own bookstore and supported borrowing services. The best fit depends on where your existing books and library account live.
Android-based BOOX readers give readers more choice of reading apps, which helps when a collection spans services. That flexibility comes with more settings to manage than a dedicated reader. Kobo models support library borrowing in eligible markets, while Kindle library access depends on the service and region. Check compatibility for your own library before choosing a device.
Which e-reader features are worth prioritizing on Black Friday?
The most useful e-reader features to compare in Black Friday 2026 are screen size, waterproofing, color support, page buttons and access to your preferred bookstore. The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 16GB combines a 7-inch screen with IPX8 water resistance, while the Kobo Libra Colour 32GB adds color and physical buttons.
Start with how and where you read, then compare storage and software. A reader with 16GB is ample for many text-focused libraries, while comics and audiobooks take more room. Black Friday is a good time to compare the features against your budget and shortlist, rather than paying for color or app flexibility you do not need.
Buying Guide
Match the screen to your reading style
Pick a 6-inch class reader for compactness or a 7-inch screen for a larger page. The BOOX Palma 2 128GB is the pocket-focused option; the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 16GB provides more display area.
Choose your bookstore and software
Kindle and Kobo readers offer streamlined, ecosystem-focused experiences. BOOX models run Android and support a wider choice of reading apps, with extra setup in exchange for flexibility.
Decide whether color matters
Color screens suit comics, illustrated titles and colorful covers. Monochrome screens keep the focus on sharp text and novels. Check the stated color resolution before choosing.
Check durability and controls
An IPX8 rating is useful for reading near water. Physical page buttons add a tactile way to turn pages, while touchscreen-only models keep the design simple.
Compare storage with your library
Text-heavy libraries need less space than comics, audiobooks and large document collections. Pick storage based on what you plan to keep on the device, not just the biggest number.
