Which game is better: Demon's Souls or Returnal?

Sony Demon's Souls (PS5) and Sony Returnal (PS5) are 2 excellent but very different single-player games. Demon's Souls is the better match for players who want a methodical action RPG, an interconnected fantasy setting and combat where patience matters. The game rewards studying enemy moves and choosing when to attack.

Sony Returnal (PS5) is the stronger fit for players who want rapid shooting, alien environments and a run-based structure. Expect to repeat sections as you learn the combat and build skill. Choose by preferred rhythm, not by graphics alone: slow, tactical encounters point to Demon's Souls; constant movement and replayability point to Returnal. Both are PS5-only experiences in this guide.

Which game should I buy first for PS5?

Sony Demon's Souls (PS5) is the better first pick for players who want one defined action-RPG journey, while Sony Returnal (PS5) is the better first pick for players who value repeat runs. Both games focus on 1-player campaigns, so the decision comes down to how you like to learn and progress.

Pick Demon's Souls if careful exploration, weapon choices and boss patterns sound rewarding. Pick Returnal if responsive aiming, dodging and improvising across runs sound more appealing. Black Friday 2026 is also a good time to compare the games against accessories already in your setup. A headset adds immersion to both; a second controller is more useful for shared gaming than for either game's solo campaign.

Which PS5 console is best for these games?

Sony PlayStation 5 Slim Console – 1TB, Disc Edition is the most flexible console for Demon's Souls and Returnal, with a 1TB SSD and disc support. The disc drive gives players access to physical game copies as well as digital downloads, making it the straightforward choice for a mixed library.

Sony PlayStation 5 Slim Console – 1TB, Digital Edition delivers the same core PS5 platform features for players committed to downloads. Both consoles support up to 4K output and refresh rates up to 120Hz with compatible displays and games. Compare storage needs, existing game collections and whether physical discs matter before choosing. Either console runs the two featured games.

Do Demon's Souls and Returnal need extra accessories?

Sony DualSense Wireless Controller – Midnight Black, Sony PULSE 3D Wireless Headset – Midnight Black and Sony PlayStation Portal Remote Player for PS5 – White each solve a different setup problem. None is required to play either game, but each serves a clear purpose.

A second DualSense controller is handy for local multiplayer in other games or as a spare. The PULSE 3D headset brings wireless audio and chat, while the Portal provides an 8-inch Remote Play screen streamed from a PS5. Choose based on how you play: audio immersion, another controller or a screen away from the television. The Portal depends on Wi-Fi and a PS5 connection.

What should I compare for Black Friday 2026?

Sony Demon's Souls (PS5), Sony Returnal (PS5) and the Sony PlayStation 5 Slim Console – 1TB, Disc Edition are the core comparison points for a PS5 gaming setup. Start with the games you actually want, then check whether you need the console or only an accessory.

For a console purchase, compare disc and digital editions, storage capacity and display compatibility. For accessories, focus on real use: wireless chat, a backup controller or Remote Play. Black Friday 2026 is a useful moment to compare product bundles and included items alongside standalone products. Confirm that the product name, platform and edition match your intended setup before ordering.
