Which game is better: Resident Evil 4 or Alan Wake 2?
Resident Evil 4 and Alan Wake 2 are strong picks for different kinds of horror, with 1-player campaigns built around distinct play styles. Resident Evil 4 is the better match for frequent combat, weapon upgrades and tight resource decisions. Alan Wake 2 suits players who want investigation, character-driven storytelling and a more deliberate pace.
Neither game is a universal winner. The best choice depends on what keeps you engaged: immediate pressure and combat encounters, or mystery and atmosphere that build across scenes. The Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition adds Separate Ways and the Extra DLC Pack. Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition includes Night Springs and The Lake House. Compare the edition contents as carefully as the game itself when choosing your Black Friday 2026 pick.
Should I buy Resident Evil 4 or Alan Wake 2 for action?
Resident Evil 4 is the better action pick, with 1 main campaign centered on aiming, positioning and managing ammunition. Encounters reward players who balance aggression with careful use of supplies, and its pace keeps the pressure moving between combat and exploration.
Alan Wake 2 uses combat as one part of a wider horror experience rather than its main attraction. Investigation and atmosphere take more room, creating a slower rhythm with a different kind of tension. Choose Resident Evil 4 if you want responsive action and repeatable combat challenges. Choose Alan Wake 2 if your favorite horror games prioritize uncertainty, clues and story. Both are single-player games, so the decision comes down to the experience you want rather than multiplayer features.
Which game has the stronger story and atmosphere?
Alan Wake 2 is the stronger pick for narrative and atmosphere, with 2 included expansions in its Deluxe Edition. The game builds unease through investigative sequences, shifts in perspective and carefully paced discoveries. Night Springs and The Lake House extend that story-led approach.
Resident Evil 4 delivers a more action-forward campaign, with a clear central objective and a steady stream of encounters. Its setting and characters support the tension, but the moment-to-moment appeal leans more on survival action than extended investigation. Players who want an eerie mystery should start with Alan Wake 2. Players who want a focused action-horror campaign with a strong sense of momentum should choose Resident Evil 4. The two games offer different strengths, not interchangeable versions of the same horror formula.
Which platform should I choose for these games?
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S both offer access to the featured games, with 2 console families represented in this guide. Start with the system you already own, since game libraries, controllers and saved progress are important parts of the decision.
The Sony PlayStation 5 Slim Console 1TB suits players who want PlayStation exclusives and DualSense features. The Microsoft Xbox Series X 1TB Console (Black) is a strong fit for players invested in Xbox and physical discs. Check the exact game edition and platform listing before buying, especially when comparing a console game with a digital edition. Console performance features depend on the title and a compatible display, so treat 4K and high-frame-rate support as capabilities rather than guarantees for every game.
Which edition makes the most sense for Black Friday 2026?
Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition for PlayStation 5 and Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition for PlayStation 5 each include 2 major extras, making them the most content-rich game picks here. The right bundle depends on which game you want and whether you value its added story content.
Choose Resident Evil 4 Standard Edition when the main campaign is enough, or select Gold Edition for Separate Ways and the Extra DLC Pack. Choose Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition for its base game and the Night Springs and The Lake House expansions. For a new setup, match the console to your preferred library before selecting a game. On Black Friday 2026, compare the exact edition name, included content and platform compatibility in each listing; similar titles can represent different bundles.
