Which is better, Kindle Paperwhite or Kobo Clara Colour?
The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (16 GB), 12th Generation is better for readers who prioritize a large monochrome screen, while the Kobo Clara Colour (16 GB) is better for compact color reading. The Paperwhite’s 7-inch display gives text more room, and its 300 ppi resolution keeps lettering crisp. The Clara Colour uses a 6-inch screen with color for covers, illustrations and annotations.
The deciding factor is your library as much as the hardware. Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (16 GB), 12th Generation fits readers who buy or borrow through Kindle services. Kobo Clara Colour (16 GB) supports EPUB books directly and suits readers who value a more open file experience. Both models are waterproof, so screen format and store preference should lead the decision.
Is a color e-reader worth choosing for Black Friday 2026?
The Kobo Clara Colour (16 GB) and Amazon Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition (32 GB) are the best color choices here, with 6-inch and 7-inch displays respectively. Color gives covers, illustrations, comics and highlights more context. Text remains readable in monochrome resolution, while color detail is lower than black-and-white text sharpness on both devices.
Color adds the most value when books regularly include diagrams, art or marked-up passages. Readers who mainly read novels gain less from a color panel and can choose a Kobo Clara BW (16 GB) or Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (16 GB), 12th Generation instead. Compare the type of content you read, not just the word “color” in a product listing.
Which e-reader is best for EPUB books and library flexibility?
The Kobo Clara Colour (16 GB), Kobo Clara BW (16 GB) and Kobo Libra Colour (32 GB) are the strongest picks for readers who want native EPUB support. The Kobo store and compatible book files give Kobo devices a straightforward route for readers with books from different sources. Kobo models also include OverDrive integration for borrowing library ebooks where supported.
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (16 GB), 12th Generation remains a strong choice for readers whose purchases and subscriptions already live in Amazon’s Kindle ecosystem. Kindle supports EPUB transfer through Send to Kindle, which converts files for reading, rather than opening EPUB files natively. Check your library’s device support and existing ebook formats before choosing a platform.
Which Black Friday 2026 e-reader is best for travel?
The Kobo Clara Colour (16 GB) and Kobo Clara BW (16 GB) are the most travel-friendly picks here, with compact 6-inch screens and waterproof IPX8 designs. A smaller reader fits more easily into a bag or coat pocket, while the waterproof build adds reassurance near a pool or on a rainy commute. Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (16 GB), 12th Generation remains a travel-ready option for readers who prefer a larger display.
Battery life varies with brightness, wireless use and reading habits, so use the maker’s claims as a guide rather than a guarantee. Download books before a trip and check charging needs against your travel plans. Skip it if you want a reader mainly for handwritten notes: the Amazon Kindle Scribe (16 GB) with Basic Pen has a much larger writing area, but is less compact.
What should shoppers compare before choosing an e-reader?
The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (16 GB), 12th Generation, Kobo Clara Colour (16 GB) and Kobo Libra Colour (32 GB) illustrate the main trade-offs: screen size, color, store access and controls. Choose a screen size that suits your reading posture, then decide whether color content and physical page buttons matter. Storage is less important for text-only libraries than for collections with many large files or audiobooks.
Check the exact variant in every Black Friday 2026 listing. Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition (32 GB), 12th Generation adds wireless charging and an auto-adjusting light compared with the standard model. Kobo Libra Colour (32 GB) supports a compatible stylus sold separately, while Amazon Kindle Scribe (16 GB) with Basic Pen includes a pen. Confirm the included accessories and model name before purchasing.
