As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

NBA 2K25 vs NHL 25 Black Friday 2026 comes down to one question: which sport do you want to play? I researched and compared specs, reviews and owner feedback across both games and their compatible consoles. NBA 2K25 brings basketball modes and a Nintendo Switch option. NHL 25 focuses on hockey and is available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The picks below cover the main game versions plus three consoles for shoppers building or upgrading a setup. Check the exact platform before buying, especially if you play on Switch. Here's the bottom line: pick the sport you follow, then match the game to your console. Worth it for most players means choosing a version that fits the system already under your TV.

How We Picked

• Compared supported platforms so shoppers can avoid buying a game for the wrong console.
• Reviewed official product details for editions, storage, display, and core features.
• Considered owner feedback and recurring themes in reviews, including mode variety and ease of setup.
• Included console options for shoppers who need compatible hardware, not just a game.
• Prioritized distinct use cases, from portable basketball play to a home-console hockey setup.

Which is better for Black Friday 2026: NBA 2K25 or NHL 25?

NBA 2K25 and NHL 25 serve different sports fans, so the better pick depends on whether you want basketball or hockey. NBA 2K25 offers a Switch version as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S editions. NHL 25 is for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

For a basketball-focused choice, start with NBA 2K25 and compare its modes on your platform. For hockey, choose NHL 25 and check the exact console version. Both games are sports simulations, but they are not interchangeable: the sport, modes, and compatible systems define the decision. Match the edition to your console before you check Black Friday 2026 listings.

Which platforms support NBA 2K25 and NHL 25?

NBA 2K25 has 3 platform families in this guide: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. NHL 25 supports PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no Nintendo Switch edition in this selection.

That platform gap is the simplest way to narrow the choice. Switch owners looking for a sports game here should choose NBA 2K25. PS5 and Xbox Series players can compare both sports. Check the console generation on the listing, too: the PS5 and Xbox Series versions are not the same as older console editions. Buying the wrong platform is the easiest mistake to avoid.

Is NBA 2K25 a good pick for solo or online play?

NBA 2K25 includes 2 prominent modes, MyCAREER and MyTEAM, giving basketball fans more than a single quick-match option. Players can choose a career-focused path or build a team-oriented experience, then select the version made for their console.

The PS5 edition features ProPLAY technology, while the Nintendo Switch version adds portability. Look at the platform you use most and the modes you plan to spend time in. Online features require an internet connection, and console online play can have separate service requirements. Read the specific platform listing for edition details and online functionality before checking out.

Is NHL 25 worth choosing over NBA 2K25?

NHL 25 is the right pick for hockey fans who want a game centered on NHL play and World of Chel. NBA 2K25 is the stronger match for basketball fans, with MyCAREER and MyTEAM among its named modes.

The two games also differ in platform choice. NHL 25 fits PS5 and Xbox Series X|S households, while NBA 2K25 also has a Switch version for handheld play. Choose by sport first, then confirm that the game works with your console. If you enjoy both sports, consider your current library, friends' platforms, and preferred modes rather than treating one title as a replacement for the other.

Which console should you buy for these sports games?

The Sony PlayStation 5 Slim Console 1TB and Microsoft Xbox Series X 1TB Carbon Black Console both support 2 game choices in this guide: NBA 2K25 and NHL 25. The Nintendo Switch OLED Model White Joy-Con supports NBA 2K25 and offers handheld play.

Choose PS5 or Xbox Series X based on your existing game library, friends, and controller preference. Each gives you access to both sports represented here. Pick Switch when portability matters more than access to NHL 25. Before buying a console, check the included storage, disc-drive configuration, and the kind of game copies you plan to use. Those details shape the experience long after Black Friday.

Buying Guide

Start with the sport

Choose NBA 2K25 for basketball modes and NHL 25 for hockey. If you follow both sports, decide which game you expect to play more often. The sport is the clearest first filter.

Match the exact platform

NBA 2K25 is available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch in this guide. NHL 25 is available for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Confirm the platform name on the product listing.

Pick the right console generation

The PS5 and Xbox Series game versions require their matching console families. Check the box, digital store page, or product description for compatibility details before you buy.

Think about portable play

Nintendo Switch is the only portable-console route among these picks. The Switch OLED Model has a 7-inch screen and supports handheld and TV play, but it does not support NHL 25.

Compare editions and storage

Standard Edition keeps the game choice straightforward. For a console, compare storage, disc drive, and your preferred physical or digital library. Leave room for updates and other installed games.
