Which is faster, WD_BLACK SN770 or WD Blue SN570?
The Western Digital WD_BLACK SN770 NVMe SSD 1TB is faster on paper, with sequential reads up to 5,150 MB/s versus 3,500 MB/s for the Western Digital WD Blue SN570 NVMe SSD 1TB. The SN770 uses PCIe Gen4 x4; the SN570 uses PCIe Gen3 x4.
The speed gap matters most when a compatible system handles large file transfers or storage-heavy tasks. Everyday browsing and office work feel responsive on either SSD, and a Gen3 host limits the benefit of a Gen4 drive. Check the motherboard or laptop specifications before paying for faster hardware. For a Gen4 PC, the SN770 is the more forward-looking pick; for an older Gen3 system, the SN570 remains a capable match.
Is the WD_BLACK SN770 better than the WD Blue SN570 for gaming?
The Western Digital WD_BLACK SN770 NVMe SSD 1TB is the stronger gaming choice for a PCIe Gen4 system, with reads up to 5,150 MB/s and a 1TB capacity. The Western Digital WD Blue SN570 NVMe SSD 1TB reads up to 3,500 MB/s.
Both drives use the M.2 2280 form factor, but device compatibility matters as much as the headline speed. A game’s loading performance depends on the full system, not only the SSD. Choose the SN770 for a modern Gen4 build and a larger stream of storage-intensive games. Choose the SN570 for a Gen3 machine or a basic library where capacity and fit matter more than maximum throughput.
Should you choose 500GB, 1TB, or 2TB?
The Western Digital WD_BLACK SN770 NVMe SSD 2TB is the roomiest option here, while the Western Digital WD_BLACK SN770 NVMe SSD 500GB is the compact-capacity choice. The WD Blue SN570 range in this guide tops out at 1TB.
A 500GB drive suits a system drive, a few applications, and a modest game collection. A 1TB drive gives most laptop and desktop users a more flexible balance. A 2TB SSD is useful for a large game library, video files, or project folders that stay on the computer. Check the available M.2 slot and any device capacity limits before selecting a size. Remember that usable space is lower than the drive’s stated capacity.
Will the WD_BLACK SN770 work in a PlayStation 5?
The Western Digital WD_BLACK SN770 NVMe SSD 1TB is an M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 drive with sequential reads up to 5,150 MB/s, a speed specification suited to PlayStation 5 expansion requirements.
Before installation, check Sony’s current console requirements for M.2 SSDs, including supported dimensions and the required heat-dissipation solution. The SN770 does not include a factory heatsink in the standard version listed here, so plan for cooling that meets the console’s guidance. Console compatibility depends on the exact configuration and fit, not just the model name. Keep the console’s cover, screw, and installation instructions handy during setup.
What is the best WD SSD for Black Friday 2026?
The Western Digital WD_BLACK SN770 NVMe SSD 1TB is the best all-around Black Friday 2026 pick for a compatible Gen4 PC, with reads up to 5,150 MB/s and a practical capacity. The Western Digital WD Blue SN570 NVMe SSD 1TB is the better match for a Gen3 computer.
Compare the exact capacity and interface when reviewing product listings, since similar names can refer to different drives. Look for a drive that suits the computer’s M.2 slot, workload, and storage needs rather than choosing by speed alone. Skip it if your device uses a different drive size or does not support NVMe. For larger libraries, compare the 2TB SN770; for higher-end performance, consider the SN850X.
Buying Guide
Check interface compatibility
Confirm whether your computer supports PCIe Gen3 or Gen4 NVMe drives. The WD Blue SN570 uses Gen3, while the SN770, SN580, and SN850X use Gen4. A faster drive works within supported host limits, so match the SSD to the device.
Choose a capacity that fits your files
Select 500GB for a basic system drive, 1TB for a flexible everyday setup, or 2TB for a larger game and media library. Check available drive slots and device capacity limits before ordering.
Verify the M.2 size
The drives in this guide use the M.2 2280 form factor. Confirm your laptop, desktop motherboard, or console supports that physical size and has an available NVMe-compatible slot.
Plan for cooling where required
Some systems require a heatsink or other heat-dissipation solution, especially for console expansion. Confirm the device maker’s installation guidance and make sure any cooling hardware fits the slot and cover.
Compare the exact model and capacity
Listings can group several capacities under one product page. Verify the full model name, capacity, interface, and included accessories before checkout so the selected SSD matches your intended setup.
