Which game is better: Yakuza Kiwami 2 or Yakuza 6?

Yakuza Kiwami 2 is the stronger value pick for players who want 16 story chapters and an extra Majima Saga, while Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is the better choice for a focused 13-chapter Kiryu story. Both bring brawler action and Dragon Engine presentation.

The difference comes down to scope and story order. Yakuza Kiwami 2 revisits Kiryu’s conflict with the Omi Alliance and includes a separate playable story. Yakuza 6 follows Kiryu as he searches for answers connected to Haruka and her child.

Worth it for most players: Yakuza Kiwami 2 offers more story content in one package. Players invested in the ongoing Kiryu narrative should choose Yakuza 6 after catching up on earlier series entries.

How do the stories and settings compare?

Yakuza Kiwami 2 and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life each feature 2 major settings, but their stories serve different purposes. Yakuza Kiwami 2 returns to Kamurocho and adds Sotenbori, while Yakuza 6 pairs Kamurocho with the quieter Onomichi.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 leans into a large-scale clash between rival organizations, with Kiryu at the center and the Majima Saga as a distinct extra. The extra story gives players a change of perspective after the main campaign.

Yakuza 6 puts Kiryu’s personal relationships first. Its smaller cast and single playable lead keep the focus tight, and Onomichi gives the series a fresh location alongside familiar Kamurocho.

Which game has more content for a Black Friday purchase?

Yakuza Kiwami 2 has 16 main story chapters and a separate Majima Saga, compared with Yakuza 6: The Song of Life’s 13 main story chapters. Chapter counts do not measure every side activity, but they offer a useful quick comparison.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 suits players who want a longer central campaign and an additional story arc. The package brings more narrative variety, so it stands out as the broader single-game pick.

Yakuza 6 still delivers plenty beyond its main plot through side stories and activities. Pick it for its emotional Kiryu storyline rather than for the largest chapter count.

Which platforms support Yakuza Kiwami 2 and Yakuza 6?

Yakuza Kiwami 2 and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life are available on PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One, with Xbox versions playable on Xbox Series X|S. Check the specific store page for current regional edition details.

PlayStation buyers can select a physical PlayStation 4 copy or a digital edition, depending on the title and seller. PC players can find both games through Steam, while Xbox players can choose a digital console edition.

Neither product listing should be treated as a native PlayStation 5 edition. PlayStation 4 copies run through PlayStation 5 backward compatibility, so confirm compatibility and disc requirements for your console model.

Should you play Yakuza Kiwami 2 before Yakuza 6?

Play Yakuza Kiwami 2 before Yakuza 6 if you want the Kiryu saga in story order, since Yakuza Kiwami 2 comes earlier in Kiryu’s timeline. Yakuza 6 works best when players already know the relationships and events that shape Kiryu’s choices.

For newcomers, the numbered entries can feel like a big commitment. Yakuza Kiwami 2 provides a polished standalone conflict, while Yakuza 6 acts as a major point in Kiryu’s ongoing story.

Players choosing only one Black Friday game can use story preference as the shortcut: choose Yakuza Kiwami 2 for extra content and a remake, or choose Yakuza 6 for the next chapter in Kiryu’s life.

Buying Guide

Choose the story first

Pick Yakuza Kiwami 2 for 16 chapters and the Majima Saga. Pick Yakuza 6: The Song of Life for 13 chapters focused on Kiryu’s later story.

Match the game to your platform

Both games have PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox options. Confirm the exact platform and regional store listing before checkout.

Decide between disc and digital

A physical PlayStation 4 copy suits disc libraries and collectors. Digital editions fit console or Steam libraries without a game disc.

Check your console compatibility

Xbox editions support Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation 4 editions work on compatible PlayStation 5 consoles through backward compatibility.

Consider series order

Yakuza Kiwami 2 comes earlier in Kiryu’s timeline. Choose Yakuza 6 after earlier Kiryu stories for the strongest narrative context.
